CLEEN Foundation tasks officials on justice delivery, human rights

A non-governmental organisation, CLEEN Foundation, has urged government officials and security agencies to promote justice and humanity by adhering to the Administration of Criminal Justice Law (ACJL).

The group made the appeal while addressing participants at a training workshop organised for judges, lawyers, police officers and other security agencies yesterday in Yola, Adamawa State.

In his opening remarks, the foundation’s Programme Officer, Mr Ebere Mbaegbu, commended the state government for being the first state to implement the ACJL, pointing out that the stipulations promote justice for the growth of democracy.

“The objectives of the foundation are to promote justice for humanity and the growth of Nigeria’s democracy,” he said.

Mbaegbu added that institutionalising the ACJL reforms would strengthen collaboration across law enforcement agencies and civil society.

He noted that adhering to the provisions of the ACJL would improve public and institutional awareness of rights, as well as empower those involved in oversight and legal access at the community level.

Earlier, Justice Felix Nzarga of the Adamawa State High Court stated that both judges, police, and other law enforcement agencies should support the ACJL for the effective promotion of democracy and human rights.

He pointed out that if law enforcement agencies operate according to the provisions of the law, Nigeria will become a great country, and democracy will thrive more rapidly.
