Zamfara to build cargo facility
Anglican Bishop of Egbu Diocese, Owerri North, Imo State, Geoffrey Okorafor, has commended senators for refusing Federal Government’s plan to downgrade the Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu.

Okorafor stated this at the weekend during a Eucharistic Service of Confirmation, Admission and Induction for Emii Parish at Emmanuel Anglican Church, Emii, Owerri North Local Council, noting that it would have been another antithetical blow for the South East region.

The cleric, however, urged the Federal Government to uplift and provide more facilities at the airport, instead planning to downgrade, stressing that the airport had been central to serving Nigerians’ businesses. He argued that a facelift that would upgrade the facility to a worldclass status was rather more desirable, to downgrading it.

In his sermon, the bishop’s chaplain, Reverend Progress Okoroafor, cautioned Christians to be resolute in God. Besides, in a bid to diversify its economy, Zamfara State Governor, Bello Muhammad, has disclosed that his administration will build a cargo airport to be used by northern business community for exportation and imports.

He made this known yesterday when he visited the proposed site for the airport project, saying arrangements are on to commence the project within the first 100 days of his administration. He explained that the idea was part of his government’s plans to invest in the economic sector with a view to attracting more investors, diversify the state’s economy and create jobs for the unemployed youths.

“I visited the proposed site of the project with some investors that have showed interest in the transportation sector in order to assess the capacity of the site. This is just a beginning of what we are planning to bring in the state,” he said.He explained that his government would reach out to investors from within and outside the country with a view to making the state economically more viable and attractive.
