A Mack trailer tanker loaded with 33,000 litres of Automotive Gas Oil (AGO), commonly known as diesel, lost control and fell by the roadside following brake failure in Oyo State.
No casualty was recorded in the incident. The Oyo State Fire Services Agency said it received a distress call at about 1:39 p.m. reporting the tanker accident at the location.

Fire service personnel, led by  A.  Wahab  , promptly responded to the incident and, on arrival, found that the tanker, with registration number AFN 467 XA (Kwara), had fallen by the roadside, resulting in the spillage of its contents.

The fire service crew immediately commenced operations to prevent a possible fire outbreak, blanketing the affected area with foam chemical compounds and securing the scene.

A preliminary investigation by the fire service identified brake failure as the cause of the accident.

The fire appliance returned safely to the station at about 6:26 p.m. and remained on operational standby.

The Special Adviser on Fire Services Reform and Chairman of the Fire Services Agency, Dr. Moroof  Akinwande, urged motorists to prioritise regular vehicle maintenance and comply with traffic regulations to prevent accidents.

Akinwande also urged drivers to avoid speeding, fatigue driving and reckless manoeuvres capable of endangering lives and property.
