In a candid assessment of the nation’s current challenges, the General Overseer of Victory International Church, Bishop Victor Adelakun, has voiced concern over Nigeria’s worsening economic and security situation, calling for spiritual reflection, leadership accountability, and discernment amid rising political tensions.
Speaking during a media briefing in Ibadan, Adelakun noted the severity of the country’s hardship, stating that it requires urgent, sincere attention beyond political rhetoric.
“The economic hardship has been there, the security problems have been there, but they are biting more and more. Men cannot help us. That is the final arbiter in this situation,” he said.
His remarks come ahead of the annual Victory International Church Convention, expected to draw thousands to Wonder City along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway from August 3 to 10, 2025, under the theme ‘All Things New.’
The event, according to the bishop, will serve as a platform for national prayer, spiritual awakening, and renewed hope amid Nigeria’s mounting crises.
The victory convention will be featuring massive salvation, deliverance, breakthrough, divine healing, word, worship, and others.
Citing economic indicators and the lived experiences of millions, the cleric underscored the growing hunger and poverty affecting Nigerians, adding that the realities on the ground are self-evident.
Adelakun expressed concern about the credibility of some of the voices now speaking out; warning against the politicisation of the people’s suffering.
He criticised former office holders who now portray themselves as opposition champions, despite having contributed to the nation’s current predicament.
Despite the grim outlook, Adelakun reiterated that Nigeria’s problems cannot be solved solely through political means, urging citizens and leaders alike to return to moral and spiritual foundations.
He also called for prayers for the leaders, saying: “Anywhere there is unrighteousness, there will be problems.”
