Retired Methodist Archbishop of Ilesa and Ibadan, Ayo Ladigbolu, has charged President-elect, Bola Tinubu, to leverage his experience, influence and connections to make Nigeria greater.

The Oyo prince, who is eyeing the Alaafin of Oyo stool, told The Guardian in the ancient town that the erstwhile Lagos State governor would deliver as leader of the most populous black nation.

He described the Jagaban Borgu as father of the nation, who enjoys wide acceptance, recalling that he fought for the country during the regime of the late General Sani Abacha.

The cleric submitted that Nigerians would not regret electing the Osun indigene.

Ladigbolu said: “There was a big rally in Lagos, organised by leaders of Yorubaland. I was asked to chair the rally, which to me, was an honour and a delight that I could be asked to play that role by Southwest leaders of thoughts. I sang a song, saying our own choice is Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and that we were going to support him to the end, because we believed it is our right to do so.

“To God’s glory he has been elected the next President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. I want to congratulate him, his family and Yoruba leaders of thoughts, who organised the rally.

“We are confident that Bola will perform, do his best and Nigerians will see the difference.”

SIMILARLY, an expert on the economy, Opeyemi Agbaje, has urged the President-elect to be decisive with prevailing insecurity.

Delivering a paper, titled, ‘Crime and Insecurity: Understanding Nigeria’s Socio-economic Crisis’, the guest lecturer, at a media parley, organised by First City Monument Bank (FCMB), stressed if the security challenges are not tackled, they would have cascading effects on socio-economic development of the nation.

He observed that available data indicate that Nigeria is engulfed in an economic crisis, and thus, needs a capable leadership to bail it.

Agbaje observed that the subsisting security architecture was potent and only needed the political will to drive the entire process.

He stated that as long as there is a dysfunctional economy with weak leadership, crime rate would continue to increase.

The guest lecturer added that to address the current economic quagmire, a mix of market and social policy was needed to move the country forward.

In his welcome address, the Vice President, Corporate Affairs of the bank, Diran Olojo, submitted that an informed media would aid nation’s growth and better the society.

He charged reporters on responsible journalism for good of the citizenry and image of their brands.
