Cleric seeks God’s intervention over migrants’ crisis
WORRIED by the colossal loss of human lives on the Mediterranean sea, a pastor in Assemblies of God Church, Lagos, Rev. Cole Omeaku Chiori, said the only end to the challenge is to seek Divine intervention.
Chiori, while lamenting the millions of lives lost in the sea, condemned the activities of rebels in Syria and other parts of the Middle East, which is the primary cause of migration to Europe.
He said: “The only way out of the crisis is for people to pray for Divine intervention over the crisis.”
Commending the rescue efforts of the United Kingdom (UK) and Italian governments, the cleric urged other migrants, especially Africans, to go through the proper channel. He cautioned operators of illegal vessels, which do not give migrants the needed life-jackets, to desist from so doing, adding that ferrying passengers in over-crowded vessels is also a contributory factor to deaths in the Mediterranean Sea.
While advising Africans, especially Nigerians, to desist from risking their lives on the sea, Rev. Chiori, who is also the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Ocean Glory Commodities Limited, said he feels so bad to see Nigerians doing menial jobs abroad instead of exploring the opportunities in their own country.
