In commemoration of Lions World Service Day, the Sagamu Metropolitan Lions Club, District 404A3 Nigeria, recently visited the Ogun State Hospital Management Board Hansen Disease Settlement, Oke-Eriwo, Ijebu-Igbo, where members assisted the people with foodstuffs to put smiles on their faces.
Speaking during the visit, 2nd Vice District Governor, Dele Tajudeen, who led the club to the settlement, said Lions Club is an international service organisation in many countries with over 1.5 million members who execute projects that cut across vision, hunger, environment, diabetes, childhood cancer, youth empowerment, and humanitarian relief.

“This is not the first time our club is visiting you to address some of your needs because we always believe that the government cannot do everything for you. The other time we came, you were more than this number, and we discovered that you needed drugs. We asked further for all that you needed and we brought them for you. This Club is neither a political group nor a secret cult. It is a club that is made up of a calibre of people who do not eat everything they have. They think of the needy. They lift up the downtrodden. We do this in several ways.
“We deliberated on the need assessment you gave us and, by the grace of God and with the help of the members of this club, have brought these food items for you without soliciting help from the government to buy any of them. All these were bought with the contributions made by the members of the club. We know that you need help in the area of food; hence, we bring for you today all these food items, including fish, pepper, tomatoes, onions, kegs of red oil, more than 40 tubers of yam, crates of eggs, bags of rice, gari, beans, cartons of indomie, toothpaste, neat clothes, kerosene, bathing soap, sponge, among others. We pray that God will not forget you,” he said.
The President of the Club, Ajibode Babatunde, said the club prides itself on assisting the downtrodden and generally putting smiles on people’s faces.
He said: “This is the reason our leader, who was once here, decided to come here again with us to render assistance in our own way to you.”
The head of the beneficiaries, Ganiyu Obisanya, on behalf of his people, appreciated the club for all they brought and prayed for them.
“Our water tap has spoilt and it needs to be repaired, while our accommodations as well as our kitchens need rehabilitation. The gate is also bad,” he said.
