CMS old boys to commission N27m school hall at 158th Founders’ Day

The old boys association of Nigeria’s oldest secondary school, CMS Grammar School, will be unveiling a multi-million naira modern school hall built at the cost of N27.5 million, as part of projects to be commissioned during its forthcoming 158th founders’ day celebration.

President of the association, Mr. Adedapo Fashanu, who made this known at a press conference in Lagos, said the initiative was embarked upon to set the pace for old students associations of legacy institutions in the country towards contributing to the growth and development of the education sector.

He said the institution founded by the Church Missionary Society (CMS) in 1859, which currently has on its long list of rich alumni many Nigerians occupying strategic positions in political, social and economic spheres, will also commission a staff quarter that would ensure that teachers live closer to the school for best academic, spiritual and moral knowledge delivery to the students, in the bid to restore the school to its former glory as the best institution in Nigeria.

Activities lined up for the celebration, which will begin on May 26 and end on June 6, 2017, include a national colloquium on 158 years of secondary education in Nigeria, with the lead paper to be delivered by the Head of Department of Arts and Social Science Education at the University of Lagos, Prof. Clara Opara, speech and prize-giving day, annual inter-house sports, and entrepreneurship summit, among others.

Principal of the institution, Venerable Olaoluwa Adeyemi, said the celebration themed: “Grooming for Impact” will serve as an opportunity for the old boys and current students to reminisce on where they came from as well as encourage young students to work hard and become eminent personalities in life.
