Coalition backs TANTITA amid smear attacks

Unmasking the motives behind the war on Tantita Security

The Coalition of Civil Rights Organisations for Good Governance has condemned what it described as a sustained campaign of calumny against the leadership and management of TANTITA Security Services Nigeria Limited.

In a statement signed by its Coordinator, Comrade Jude Ochiagha, and Secretary General, Kolawole Abe, the coalition said it had observed a coordinated wave of misleading media reports, sponsored commentaries, and orchestrated calls for protest aimed at undermining the integrity, competence, and operational mandate of TANTITA.

According to the group, the attacks—often framed in sensational narratives and unsupported allegations—represent the desperate tactics of oil thieves, economic saboteurs, and their collaborators whose illicit activities have been severely disrupted by TANTITA’s operational effectiveness.
“It is a matter of public record that prior to TANTITA’s engagement by the Federal Government of Nigeria, crude oil theft and pipeline vandalism had reached alarming levels across the Niger Delta, gravely undermining Nigeria’s economy and posing a serious threat to national security,” the statement said.
“However, since the company was entrusted with the critical responsibility of pipeline surveillance and protection in the region, there has been a notable improvement in oil production output, a drastic reduction in illegal bunkering activities, and stronger coordination among security stakeholders.”

The coalition noted that TANTITA has demonstrated professionalism and commitment through close collaboration with the Nigerian Navy, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, and other maritime security agencies to safeguard critical oil infrastructure.
“These efforts have contributed directly to Nigeria’s ability to steadily meet its crude oil production targets and restore investor confidence in the oil and gas sector,” it added.

The group argued that it was unsurprising that individuals and groups whose fortunes depended on the plunder of national resources were now resorting to blackmail, misinformation, and incitement in a bid to reverse the gains recorded in the fight against oil theft.
“The calls for protest against TANTITA are neither spontaneous nor altruistic. They are calculated attempts to undermine national security and derail ongoing reforms in the oil sector,” the coalition said.

Calling for vigilance, the coalition urged President Bola Tinubu, relevant federal authorities, and key stakeholders in the Niger Delta to resist pressure from criminal elements seeking to destabilize security interventions in the oil industry.

It also appealed to community leaders, youth groups, traditional institutions, and opinion leaders in the region to reject attempts to exploit them as instruments of sabotage.
“The protection of oil infrastructure is a collective responsibility and a cornerstone of national development,” the statement stressed.

The coalition reaffirmed its support for the administration of President Tinubu and institutions committed to safeguarding Nigeria’s economic lifelines. It commended the resilience, professionalism, and patriotism of the Chairman, Vice Chairman, Chief Executive Officer, management, officers, and personnel of TANTITA.
