The atmosphere at the presidential collation centre in Kano charged for a few moments as agents of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and New Nigeria Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) rejected the presidential results of the Danbatta local government council.

The objection and counter-reaction came shortly after the returning officer of the local government Professor Abdulmaliq Auwal presented the results at the collation centre.

In the results presented, the NNPP presidential candidate Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso scored 15,179 votes to defeat APC candidate Asiwaju Bola Ahmed who polled 13,179 cast votes. The PDP candidate Atiku Abubakar got 2,099 votes while the Labour Party candidate Peter Obi had 66 votes.

According to Professor Auwal votes across 13 polling units were cancelled as a result of violence, ballot snatching and over-voting.

In a counter-reaction, an agent of APC, Rabiu Sulaiman Bichi insisted that votes recorded by INEC were manipulated against the APC candidate. Bichi said the figures roll out below the total votes cast by APC supporters by 30,000.

Argued against APC’s position, agent of NNPP Kabiru Gwarzo lamented that INEC officials compromised the process by ignoring the use of BVAS machines during voting. He alleged that several electorates were allowed to vote without the use of the machine.

Meanwhile, the Chief returning officer, Professor Lawal Suliaman Bilbis assured both parties that INEC will resort to the primary source through the uploaded results to address the challenge.
