Commission Exonerates CP Biu On Boko Haram Suspect

MORE than three years after he was dismissed from the Nigerian Police on allegation of conniving with terrorists, Zakari Biu, a Commissioner of Police (CP), has been exonerated by the Police Service Commission (PSC).

MORE than three years after he was dismissed from the Nigerian Police on allegation of conniving with terrorists, Zakari Biu, a Commissioner of Police (CP), has been exonerated by the Police Service Commission (PSC).

The commission also promoted two CPs to Assistant Inspectors General of police (AIGs). A statement from the head of press in the Commission, Ikechukwu Ani said the decisions were reached at the end of the 13th plenary meeting of the Commission held in Abuja.

It said Biu was not culpable as alleged. In February 2012, CP Biu was accused of collaborating to effect the escape from Police custody, of the alleged Boko Haraam member, Kabiru Sokoto, who allegedly spearheaded the Christmas day bombing of St. Theresa Catholic Church in Madala. More than 50 people were killed.

This led to Biu’s dismissal. The statement said: “The commission exonerated CP Biu from the issues surrounding the escape of Kabiru Sokoto, an arrested Boko Haram kingpin in Abuja. “CP Zakari Biu appealed against his dismissal, the PSC exonerates him and retires him statutorily.”

Also at the meeting, the Commission approved the promotion of two Commissioners’ of Police to the rank of Assistant Inspectors General of Police.

Chairman of the commission, Mike Okiro approved the promotion of CP Danladi Adi Yirama Mshielbwala and CP Ibrahim Idris to the next rank of AIG.
