Members of the newly created Enu-Agu autonomous community in Akpugo, Nkanu West Local Council of Enugu State, have distanced themselves from a purported protest against their monarch and town union at the Enugu State House of Assembly and the Ministry of Chieftaincy Affairs.
They described the protesters as hired individuals who were not community members. The community expressed firm and unwavering support for its newly recognised traditional ruler, Igwe Sylvester Ikechukwu Nnaji, and the town union executives.
The President General of the Enu-Agu autonomous community, Mr Ikenna Ogbodo, in a statement made available to The Guardian, described the protesters, led by a chieftain of the Labour Party (LP), as impostors and urged the state government and the public to disregard them and their demands.
The community reiterated its support for Governor Peter Mbah, saying it is pleased with his administration’s efforts to open up communities in the Akpugo corridor for development and investment, particularly the construction of the PRODA-Nchatancha Nike Road.
Recently, some individuals claiming to be indigenes of the Enu-Agu community staged a protest denouncing the creation of the autonomous community and the recognition of Nnaji as their traditional ruler by the state government.
