The Consulate-General of India High Commission in Lagos, Chandramaouli Kumar Kern, has lauded the effort of the Indian community in uplifting local communities through collaborative projects and service which is boosting Nigeria and India ties.

Kern said this at the investiture Ceremony of Rotarian Suresh Nayak as President of Rotary Club of Eko Atlantic and Service Project launch in Lagos.

He expressed gratitude for the involvement of the Indian community in Nigeria.

“I am very happy to be here because they are harbingers of hope, harbingers of magic, harbingers of happiness all around. The presence of Rotary in Lagos is one of the strong instruments for Nigeria and India cooperation,” he said.

He noted that Rotary Club, widely recognised for its charitable work in both nations, has facilitated numerous initiatives, including blood donations, school renovations, and food distribution drives.

“Indian nationals in Lagos have played a crucial role in these projects, solidifying their ties to the Nigerian community.

“It is heartening to see how the Indian community contributes to Rotary’s mission of service. From blood donations to educational support, their commitment is invaluable.

“The Rotary Club has also been instrumental in strengthening cultural and social relations between India and Nigeria. Rotary training programmes have seen participants from Nigeria traveling to India to exchange knowledge and gain skills.

“This bond generates a people-to-people relationship between our nations, which is vital for us,” he said.

In his remarks, the District Governor of Rotary 9112, Rotarian Femi Adenekan, applauded the new President of the club for his past contributions, encouraging him and his team to continue the Rotary Club’s mission to bring about positive change in Nigeria.

He added that the Rotary Club of Eko Atlantic continues to be a beacon of hope, fostering unity and cooperation between the Indian and Nigerian communities, with service at its core.

Speaking at the event, the new President, Suresh Nayak, said that his new position in the club offers him an opportunity to do community service, and give back to the society.

He called for more support from all members and Nigerians towards activities and investment that will positively affect the people, especially the rural poor in the society.
