Confab, Cross section of speakers at the Conference

Residents in South-South, S/East region have been charged to improve their digital technologies and capabilities with the aim of enhancing more economic spaces to grow, reduce unemployment and poverty in the region and beyond.

The convener of Start Up South 9 Conference recently held in Port Harcourt, Mr Uche Aniche, emphasised the need for Nigerians and the government to start thinking of tech economy rather than focusing on crude oil .

Accordingly, rethinking strategies on economic diversification will revive the nation’s ailing economy.

Aniche said, there are raw talents in the country especially, in the South South region that can bring tremendous economic transformation when properly trained and harnessed.

He urged government and organisations to support the vision.

According to him, the conference focuses on uniting people, inspiring both young talents and experienced individuals to leverage technology in reducing poverty,

” The conference has evolved to reflect the dynamic technology and economic landscape, solidifying its position as a premier technology and business innovation conference in the South-South regions of Nigeria”. He said.

Speaking on the Topic “Securing the Future of Tech” Mr Yen Choi of Chiplab, emphasized on the role of microchips.

He agreed that the tech economy can play vital roles to reviving Nigeria’s economy.

He said, ” Tech economy is important in Nigeria instead of relying solely on crude oil exportation ,we can also think of tech economy developing new technology and exporting it globally “.

He lamented that there are no Microchip’s designers in the country and advocated that Microchip’s designers be taught in schools, calling on organisations, governments to sponsor trainings on the subject matter.

In his words ” we have the tendency to groom microchips designers within the shores of Nigeria to further boost the nation’s economy”.

Mrs Nkechi Egerton Idehen of Nig Com Sat, spoke on ” Satellites and Future of Connectivity “, According to her, satellites are a great complementary technology to the internet especially when it is difficult to access connections .

In her words “NigComSat is passionate about Start ups, we want to create network access through satellites especially in rural areas where people find it difficult to have good internet coverage , we want satellites to be an inclusive technology for everyone in the future”.

“The most important thing for a startup tech owner is customer experience that is why we are so interested in startups to help them create a good customer experience in the future because satellites startups won’t get stuck when internet connection shuts down”.

Other numerous speakers at the Conference stressed the need to focus on tech economy.
