The Council of Registered Builders of Nigeria (CORBON) has inducted 329 new builders, stating that the body would not hesitate to discipline any registered member found to have engaged in unethical or unprofessional conduct.

Chairman Samson A. Opaluwah made this statement at the 24th Induction Ceremony in Abuja, urging the new inductees to continue upholding the values of the profession and striving for excellence to make a lasting impact on the country.

Opaluwah expressed concern, noting that in recent times, there has been a disturbing trend of building collapses, often resulting in tragic loss of life and property damage. He called on the inductees to work together to prevent such tragedies.

He said, “As a Council, we are taking bold steps to engage with state governors to enact and enforce state planning laws that will ensure adherence to building codes and standards, which we believe will drastically address these issues.”

Also, the former President of the Federation of Construction Industry, Solomon Ogunbusola, urged the new inductees to think outside the box, stating that there are many fields where they can engage and work to improve by utilizing emerging technologies.

The Royal Father of the Day, Matthew A. Oguche Akpa II, congratulated CORBON for its successes over the decades, calling on the builders to maintain high standards in the profession and contribute to nation-building.

Akpa also explained that the body has made significant contributions both nationally and internationally, saying that this carries a weight of responsibility on the members’ shoulders to continue maintaining a reputation of service excellence and avoid tardy performance.

Dr. Oluyinka A. Olumide, from the Physical Planning and Urban Development of Lagos State, challenged the professionals to maintain their names in the built environment, highlighting emerging areas of opportunity for builders to deliver sustainable solutions.
