Council chairmen give Immigration 24 hours to vacate Oyo State

Related

Chairmen of all the 33 local councils of Oyo State, yesterday, gave the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) officials a 24-hour ultimatum to vacate their various offices in the state.

The council bosses, under the aegis of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), made the declaration in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, following the alleged assault meted out to Chairman of Ibadan North Local Council, Oladayo Yusuf, also known as ‘Agbe Egbe’, by one of the officers of the NIS.

Oyo ALGON Chairman, Sikiru Sanda, who spoke on behalf of the association at Ibadan North Local Council Secretariat, Agodi, Ibadan, said the group condemns in its entirety the assault, molestation and harassment of Yusuff who sustained multiple injuries during the ugly incident.

Sanda said that the actions of the Immigration officers degraded the position of the Executive Governor of Oyo State who had been championing the safety, peace and security of residents of Oyo State.

He said the sporadic shooting by the Immigration officials was barbaric, urging the Comptroller-General of Immigration to produce the officials who perpetrated the dastardly acts within 24 hours.

The council chiefs described the incident as a sad moment and therefore ordered the Immigration officers in various local councils in the state to vacate their offices, saying that their services are no longer needed by the residents of the state.

Yusuff, while narrating his ordeal, said he went to the Immigration office to clear the air on the allegation of his letter-headed being used as a means of getting things done quickly when some of the officers came and started the insult.

IN another development, some aggrieved students of The Polytechnic, Ibadan, yesterday, staged a protest at the gate of the Ibadan North Local Council Secretariat, calling for an end to police brutality and demanded justice for a student of the polytechnic, called Azeez, who was embarrassed and intimidated.
