The Surulere Local Council of Lagos State has unveiled the 2025 Surulere Day mascot to celebrate the vibrant culture and legacy of the area.

The event was also the celebration of the FantyCarnival to raise awareness with a colourful motorcade parading through major streets and moving toward the Olowogbowo area on Lagos Island.

Chairman of the council, Sulaimon Bamidele Yusuf, said the council is committed to making the event a yearly celebration.

According to him, a review committee was set up after the 2024 Surulere Day to evaluate and recommend ways to improve the activities, adding that the committee’s findings and recommendations have been instrumental in shaping this year’s event, with new ideas and improvements being introduced.

He assured that all recommendations during the 2024 Surulere Day had been taken into consideration, and the council is confident of a successful outing this year, stressing that all hands are on deck to ensure the carnival’s success.

Yusuf said that the relocation of people from the Island to Surulere, especially during the construction of the Eko Bridge, had created a strong bond between the two areas, adding that the carnival is an opportunity to promote Lagos’ cultural diversity and unity, and to showcase Surulere’s cultural identity.

He, therefore, urged Lagosians to support the government, expressing optimism that the policies introduced by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will yield positive results in the future, leading to a better Lagos and Nigeria.

Meanwhile, the member representing Surulere Constituency 1in the Lagos State House of Assembly, Desmond Elliot, who spoke on the importance of cultural events in promoting heritage and unity, urged the government to incorporate the carnival into December celebrations to showcase Lagos’ rich cultural identity further.

The lawmaker also emphasised the need to promote and preserve Lagos culture by practicing its values.
