A Calabar High Court has further adjourned the hearing on the murder suit involving Mr. Gray Agbesu, who was allegedly shot dead by a military officer, Yusuf Mohammed, in Calabar.

Agbesu was allegedly shot dead on July 9, 2021, by Mohammed, who was on duty at a checkpoint opposite Afokang Correctional centre in Calabar, the capital of Cross River State.

The deceased was allegedly killed on the allegation of breaking curfew rules.

The suit marked: THC/96/2021 was adjourned following the absence of a prosecution witness and the Investigative Police Officer (IPO), in charge of the case.

At the resumed hearing of the suit, which had suffered several adjournments, the prosecuting counsel, C.A Adama, told the court that “the Investigative Police Officer (IPO), in charge of the case, had been assigned to border patrol.

He told the court that a letter has been sent to the police, requesting the IPO’ presence in court.

He said: “We apply for a date to enable the IPO to come to testify before the court, we have agreed for him to appear on the 21 and 22 of June 2022.”

After listening to the prosecutor, the trial judge, Isoni Inang, adjourned further hearings to June 21 and 22, 2022.

The deceased’s wife, Mrs. Tracy Gray and parents of the suspect were in court.

MEANWHILE, the court discharged a suspect, (name not ascertained), for lack of evidence of the alleged murder.

The suspect was said to have accompanied the prime suspect to buy cigarettes before the alleged incident.
