Court adjourns Moro’s trial till October 14

The Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has adjourned the trial of former Minister of Interior, Comrade Abba Moro till October 14.

This was as the prosecution counsel, Yusuf Aliyu, yesterday introduced the second witness, a retired director in the federal civil service and Secretary to the board of the Nigerian Immigration Service, Civil Defense and Prisons Service, Mr. Sylvanus Tapong.

Tapong, while giving his account of the failed Immigration recruitment exercise of 2014, told the court that Moro did instruct the committee to ensure that the exercise was hitch free.

The witness, who said he was responsible for taking minutes and keeping all the records of the committee, added that he became aware of the recruitment contract after assuming office on September 13, 2013.

He however told the court that there were a lot of complaints about the exercise some of which included the inability of candidates to access the portal and the fact that some members of the board were not carried along in the process that culminated in the signing of agreement with Drexel Tech Nigeria Limited. Tapong further told the court that the then Comptroller General of Immigration, Mr. David Parading, representatives of the Federal Character Commission as well as the Senate Committee on Interior also complained about allotment of candidates.
