Court orders arrest of senator over alleged money laundering
Justice A. A. Okeke of the Federal High Court sitting in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State yesterday granted an application by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for the arrest of the senator representing Ibom North-East in the National Assembly, Albert Bassey, to enable him face his money laundering charges.
Bassey, according to his counsel, Samuel Ikpo, failed to appear in court because he was not served a copy of the allegations. Ikpo added that he was instructed by his client to receive the document.
However, the prosecuting counsel, Mohammed Sadisu Abubakar, told the court that efforts were made by the commission to serve the lawmaker.Consequently, the court adjourned to June 24, 2019 for Bassey’s arraignment.
