An Ado-Ekiti magistrate’s court, yesterday, remanded a 35-year-old man, Gboyega Ogunlola, at the correctional centre in the Ekiti State capital for alleged sexual assault charges.

Police prosecutor, Inspector Akinwale Oriyomi, had earlier told the court that Ogunlola defiled a 14-year-old girl at Iworoko-Ekiti on December 18.
He said the victim was running an errand for her mother when Ogunlola forced her into his house and had sexual intercourse with her.

The victim, he added, consequently reported the abuse to her mother.
The offence, the prosecution said, contravened the Child Rights Law of Ekiti State (2012).

He urged the court to remand Ogunlola at the correctional centre, pending legal advice from the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP).

Consequently, Chief Magistrate, Bankole Oluwasanmi, who did not take the defendant’s plea, ordered his remand. He adjourned till January 26, 2024 for mention.
