Court remands labourer over alleged shop breaking, theft

An Osun Magistrates’ Court in Ile-Ife on Wednesday, remanded a 23-year old man, Amontrum Daniel, over alleged shop breaking and theft.

An Osun Magistrates’ Court in Ile-Ife on Wednesday, remanded a 23-year old man, Amontrum Daniel, over alleged shop breaking and theft.

The Prosecutor, Insp Sunday Osanyintuyi, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on May 22, around 05:00 a.m. at No 1, off Falolu Area Kosere, Ile-Ife.

Osanyintuyi said that the defendant broke into shop of one Adeyinka Fadekemi with intent to commit felony.

He added that the defendant stole half bag of rice, half bag of Garri, 12 Red Label, 12 pieces of Smirnoff Vodka, 10 packs of Fearless drink and 5 packs of Realtor.

Other items allegedly stolen are 15 packs of Petmalt, 2 packs of Dongola, 10 crates of 7up, one pack of Jameson, 6 yards of Ankara materials all valued at N279,500, properties of Adeyinka Fadekemi.

According to him, the defendant conducted himself in a manner that may likely cause break down of law and order at Falolu area by breaking the shop of one Adeyinka Fadekemi.

Osanyintuyi explained further that the defendant stole different types of wine and drinks worth N279,000 that belonged to Adeyinka Fadekemi.

He told the court that the offence contravened the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun, 2002.

The defendant, who was not legally represented, pleaded guilty to count-one of shop breaking and not guilty to count-two and three on stealing and breach of peace.

Magistrate Abosede Sarumi, ordered for the remand of the defendant in Ile-Ife Nigerian Correctional Custody.
Sarumi adjourned the case until July 5 for hearing.
