Court remands man in prison over alleged cocaine trafficking

A Federal High Court in Lagos, on Wednesday ordered the remand at the Ikoyi Prisons, a 34-year-old man, Eze Ajah, charged with drug peddling.

The accused was charged by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) on a charge of drug peddling.

When the case was called, the accused was asked to enter the dock; but he informed the court that he did not understand English language, but Yoruba.

Following the information, Justice M.N. Yunusa, ordered the prosecution to produce an interpreter on the next adjourned date.

Yunusa, adjourned the case till Jan. 26, but ordered that the accused be remanded in Ikoyi Prisons.

In the charge, the accused was alleged to have committed the offence on Aug. 28.

The count reads; “That you Eze Ajah, on Aug. 28 at the departure hall of the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos, during the outward clearance of an Ethiopian Airline flight, exported 3.115 kilogrammes of cocaine, contrary to Section 11 (b) of the NDLEA Act, Cap N30 Laws of the Federation, 2004.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the offence of drug trafficking could attract up to a term of life imprisonment, if convicted.
