Court stops Edo PDP congresses

Edo State High Court sitting in Ekpoma has retrained the state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from conducting congresses tomorrow across the councils of the state.

The restraining order contained in suit number HEK/9/2020 was filed by PDP members, including Eruanga Gallant, Victor Idiakheoa and Jide Obalowoshe.

The interim injunction also includes an order retraining the PDP and Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from announcing, publishing and recognising the results of ward congresses earlier conducted by the party.

In granting the order, the presiding judge, Justice Joy Inneh, said the applicants satisfied the guidelines for the grant of the order sought.

The hearing of the case was adjourned till February 24.When contacted for comment on the restraining order, state publicity secretary of the party, Chris Nehikhare, said he was not aware of the development.
