Court stops Ekiti PDP council, state congresses

PDP chairman lauds, NWC, others for successful council congress

A high Court sitting in Ado-Ekiti has granted an order stopping the conduct of the local council and state congresses of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ekiti State. Justice Bamidele Omotoso gave the order while ruling on a motion ex-parte filed by Afolabi Adedeji.

The suit was filed against the PDP, the party’s Acting National Chairman, Umar Damagun; National Organising Secretary, Umar Bature; Caretaker Chairman of the party in Ekiti State, Dare Adeleke, and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Meanwhile, the PDP Caretaker Committee in the state has expressed its gratitude to the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) for ensuring the successful conduct of the council congress.

In a statement, Chairman of the caretaker committee, Dare Adeleke, extended his sincere appreciation to the electoral panel, the INEC, the police, the Department of State Services (DSS), and others for their support in ensuring a hitch-free congress.

Adeleke commended the NWC members, led by Dr Eddy Olafeso, for their outstanding efforts, stating: “I cannot express my appreciation enough for the marvellous job done by the committee led by the tireless and indefatigable Dr Eddy Olafeso. Today’s peaceful outing shows how organised and dedicated the committee was in preparing for this congress.

“We are thrilled that the congress commenced and concluded smoothly without any hitch. It is on record that we started ahead of schedule at 8:00 a.m. and noon, we had concluded.”
