Cross River PDP candidates advise loyalists against selective voting
The advice became necessary due to speculations that PDP members were planning to vote for candidates of their choice, irrespective of party.
Counselling the party faithful yesterday in Calabar at the inauguration of the campaign committee of Mr. Ita Mbora, representing Calabar Municipality/Odukpani in the House of Representatives, the concerned candidates said that such selective voting would spell doom for the party.
According to Mbora, the campaign council headed by former House of Assembly member and current director-general of Cross River Roads Maintenance Agency, Oqua Edet, is constituted to see to his re-election and success of other PDP candidates.
The federal lawmaker sued for synergy, sincerity of purpose and total commitment from the party faithful to guarantee PDP’s success in the coming elections.
He stressed the need for teamwork to ensures the party’s success at the polls, “to end the maladministration of the APC at the federal level” in virtually every sector.
In order not to leave any stone unturned in the quest for victory, he advocated closer ties, cooperation and rapid response to any issue from the field.
Senator Gershom Bassey (PDP, Cross River South) noted that the overall success of the party should be paramount and fundamental to all members.
The senator appealed to party loyalists to relegate personal misgivings to the background and work tirelessly for the success of the party at the polls for the benefit of the society.
State chairman of the party, Edim Inok, lauded the candidates for the collaborative approach in the campaigns and expressed optimism for PDP’s victory.
The party boss solicited loyalty, commitment and determination from members in mobilising support for every candidate on the platform of the party.
In their separate responses, Edet and the campaign leader of Team Gersh, Mr. Asuquo Ekpo, expressed delight at the privilege accorded them to anchor the re-election bids of the National Assembly members and implored members to demonstrate irrevocable loyalty and be ready to sacrifice for the attainment of collective targets.
