The Coronation Committee for the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland has unveiled a week-long programme of events to celebrate the ascension of the new monarch, culminating in the official coronation on Friday, 26 September 2025.
The committee, chaired by former President-General of the Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes (CCII), Chief Bayo Oyero, held its inaugural meeting in Ibadan on Monday, with full attendance by its members and key government officials.
According to a statement issued by the Oyo State Commissioner for Information, Dotun Oyelade, the coronation activities will commence on Monday, September 22, with an Interdenominational Service at the Olubadan Palace, Oke Aremo. The service is being organised by the CCII.
On Tuesday, September 23, a Cultural Day celebration will be held in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture and Tourism and the CCII. This will be followed on Wednesday by a Coronation Lecture to be delivered by renowned historian and scholar, Professor Toyin Falola.
Thursday, September 25, will feature a Mega Praise Worship at the Civic Centre, Idi Ape, while the grand coronation ceremony of the 44th Olubadan is scheduled to take place at Mapo Hall on Friday, September 26.
The committee’s inaugural meeting was also attended by the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Hon. Demola Ojo; the Asipa Olubadan-designate, Oba Hamidu Ajibade; Chief Nureni Adisa; and Chief Adeola Oloko, Media Aide to the Olubadan.
Other notable attendees included the Commissioners for Culture and Tourism, Women Affairs, and Information; local government chairmen from Ibadanland led by representatives from Egbeda and Ibadan South East; and the Oyo State House of Assembly member representing Ibadan South East.
Also present were the Director-General of the Governor’s Protocol Unit, along with Permanent Secretaries from the Protocol Department and the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters.
The week-long celebration is expected to draw dignitaries and traditional rulers from across the country, as Ibadan prepares to formally install its 44th monarch in a rich display of culture and tradition.
