Nigeria Police

A middle-aged police corporal, Innocent Ofem, has allegedly been shot dead at his residence by suspected cultists in Ashaka town, Ndokwa East Local Government Area of Delta State.

It was learnt that trouble started after the new Ashaka Divisional Police Officer (DPO), SP Nmor Ifeanyi, launched an anti-cultism war in the ancient town.

Sources confirmed that the campaign paid off, as many suspected cultists were arrested. It was gathered that in an attempt to escape from the police, two suspects jumped into Ashaka River and drowned.

Prior to the incident, Ashaka metropolis was plagued by the activities of cultists, causing panic and insecurity among residents.

When contacted, Ifeanyi confirmed the incident and referred the correspondent to the police headquarters, Asaba, for further details.

Meanwhile, eight persons believed to be members of a cult group have been arrested by the police in connection with the killing and are currently helping with investigation.
