Customs impound nine trucks of smuggled rice in Ogun
The Nigeria Customs Service, on Monday, foiled the effort of a smuggling syndicate after nine trucks loaded with bags of smuggled rice were impounded in Ogun state.
Comptroller of the federal operations unit, FOU, zone A, Kola Oladeji, at a press briefing in Lagos, lauded customs officers under FOU zone A for stopping the smugglers from products into the country from the Republic of Benin.
Oladeji revealed further that the command had mobilised six extra buses and 11 patrol vehicles to convey the products to the customs warehouse after the smugglers abandoned their vehicles.
“And, when our officers realized this, in compliance with our strategy of not shooting at any smugglers, they hired trucks and used some of our patrol vehicles to convey the items here, ” Oladeji said.
“A breakdown of the vehicles used for conveying the seized bags of rice from the locations were nine trucks, six buses, and 11 patrol vehicles owned by the Nigeria Customs.”
