Customs intercepts contrabands, generates N17b
The Federal Operations Unit (FOU), Zone A of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), has intercepted contrabands and generated about N17 billion between January and June this year.
While goods intercepted from smugglers terrorising the six South West states included used vehicles, pharmaceuticals, textiles, foreign parboiled rice, tomato paste and fairly used clothing, debit notes were issued on importers who under-declared cargoes.
The unit’s Customs Area Controller, Acting Comptroller Usman Yahaya, said N15.6 billion was generated from smuggled goods, while N1.4 billion was raised from wrong classification, transfer of value and false declaration of cargoes.
