Customs launches CSR unit to drive national devt priorities

Commits 4% yearly wage bill to initiative
Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Customs and Excise, has described the official launch of the “Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) Corporate Social Responsibility (CRS) Programme 2025” as an initiative to further drive Nigeria Customs Service’s (NCS) commitment to national development, which aligns with the Federal Government’s priorities under President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
Speaking yesterday in Abuja at the launch of the programme, the lawmaker representing Yagba Federal Constituency of Kogi State, stressed that the initiative underscored the service’s recognition of its broader responsibility beyond trade facilitation, revenue generation, and border security, while also serving as “a strategic forum to amplify collective impact in addressing pressing issues of national development, and showcase collaborative approaches to Corporate Social Responsibility.”
He added that the newly established CSR Unit is one of the novel programmes under the “Customs-Cares” initiative, designed to support national development priorities and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
“These initiatives are designed to positively impact communities where NCS operates, support national development, and strengthen the bond with the Nigerian people to address critical areas of education, health, food security, social investment and creative economy through capacity building,” he said.
ALSO, the NCS, yesterday, said it had earmarked four per cent of its yearly wage bill to fund the CSR, tagged “Customs Care.”
The Comptroller-General, Adewale Adeniyi made this known in Abuja at the launch of the project.
His words: “Following extensive consultations with the NCS management, I am pleased to disclose that the Service has committed to earmark approximately 4 per cent of our annual wage bill (equivalent to 50 per cent of each officer’s one-month salary) to fund this initiative.”
