Danjuma reiterates commitment to healthcare delivery
• Opens medical centre in Enugu
Former Chief of Army Staff, General Theophilus Danjuma (rtd), has reiterated the commitment of his pet-project, TY Danjuma Foundation, in improving the lives of the less privileged in the society.
He stated this while speaking during the unveiling of the Goodwill Medical Centre (GMC), Enugu, on Tuesday.
The ex-military chief said the medical centre was conceived by former Director of the World Health Organisation/African Programme for Onchocerciasis Control (WHO/APOC), Dr. Uche Amazigo, whom he met in Ouagadougou, in Upper Voltage (Burkina Faso) in 2012.
The philanthropist said he was overwhelmed by the edifice he saw at the centre in Enugu, which he acknowledged was built according to specification, pouring encomiums on Amazigo and other women for their dedication and uprightness.
A trustee of the medical centre, Prof. Anne Ndu, said that the GMC is focused on bringing affordable healthcare close to low-income and poor families in the society.
Ndu said: “We provide a platform for those who are better off to extend goodwill to the less-privileged and the poor citizens, enabling them to access better and quality healthcare.”
Also, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of GMC, Dr. Amazigo, said that she was happy about the commissioning of the medical centre, saying it was a dream fulfilled, lauding Danjuma for funding the entire project.
