To celebrate excellence and encourage hard work, Dansol High School, Ikeja, has rewarded outstanding teachers, staff, and students of the school with cash prizes and other gifts.

Speaking at the school’s yearly speech and prize-giving day, Executive Director, Dansol High School, Mrs Omotara Olanitori, said the school gave out the prizes to encourage teachers and students and demonstrate their love for hard work.

“The prizes for the children are based on their performance in their academics. We also gave out other prizes such as best in culture, music, neatness, and behaviour, among others. We are trying to raise a total child.

“We want our students to know that whatever it is you shine at, shine at it and do it excellently,” she said.

According to her, the school has moved to embrace the twenty-first-century learning scale, saying students today should be self-led learners, learning on their own while teachers are facilitators in the classroom.

“Right now, we want students to push their own learning while the teachers guide them. We are training our teachers in the use of technology and be able to encourage these learners to learn on their own. We invested in a lot of training toward this end. We also support them to improve their career path.

In celebrating the teachers, Olanitori encouraged them not to relent in their efforts, saying one of the beauties of the profession is that you can see a child come to you as a blank slate, leaving you very knowledgeable, because of the teacher’s hard work.
