DBI, Plateau govt partner to establish North-Central digital campus

The Digital Bridge Institute (DBI) has partnered with the Plateau State Government to establish its North-Central Campus in Jos, a project designed to strengthen Nigeria’s digital workforce, enhance ICT innovation, and generate employment in the region.

This was disclosed on Monday by DBI’s Head of Public Affairs, Soji-Eze Fagbemi.
As part of the initiative, DBI President David Daser and Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang jointly inaugurated a Joint Technical Working Group (JTWG) at the Twin Theater of the Government House, Rayfield, Jos, to guide planning, coordination, and implementation.

The campus is designed to function as a Centre of Excellence for ICT education, research, innovation, and entrepreneurship. It supports national efforts to enhance digital inclusion and promote socio-economic development.

Mutfwang described the partnership as a historic turning point for the state, noting that ICT had long been a priority but now had the framework for real results.

“ICT has been a long-standing priority for us, but with this collaboration, we can now anticipate concrete milestones that will fast-track e-governance, e-commerce, and other ICT-driven opportunities in Plateau State,” he said.
The governor commended DBI’s leadership for facilitating the siting of the campus in Jos. He expressed appreciation to the Minister of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani, for his support of the project.

“We are eager to see deliverables within the shortest possible time. Whatever we need to do as a government to make this succeed, we shall do, by the grace of God,” he pledged.

In his remarks, Daser explained that DBI is restructuring into a national digital institute with a statutory mandate, adding that the Plateau campus would ensure the state is not just a participant but a key beneficiary of future funding opportunities.

He said DBI’s presence would unlock access to donor-funded scholarships, advanced ICT training, and international outsourcing opportunities for Plateau youths.

Linking the initiative to the Federal Government’s Talent City Project and the planned fibre optic expansion, he stressed that Plateau is strategically positioned to emerge as a regional hub for digital jobs and innovation.
Daser also urged the Plateau State House of Assembly to expedite passage of the Plateau Startup Act, which he described as a critical funding gateway for the state’s technology ecosystem. He thanked Dr. Tijani and the Executive Vice Chairman (EVC) of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Dr. Aminu Maida, for their unyielding support in making the project possible.

On behalf of the JTWG, Secretary to the Government of the State, Samuel Jatau, assured the governor and DBI of the group’s commitment.

“We will do our best to ensure that within the shortest possible time, this partnership becomes a reality,” Jatau said.
The JTWG will operate for 12 to 24 months.

DBI is Nigeria’s foremost Centre of Excellence in Information and Communications Technology training and education, with established campuses in Abuja, Lagos, and Kano, and proposed centres in Yola, Asaba, and Enugu.

Its training offerings are designed to meet global best practices and are relevant to the needs of business, technical, managerial, and entrepreneurial professionals.
