‘Delta, Adamawa yet to surrender lands for federal varsities’

Seven months after the Federal Government granted approval for the establishment of the Federal University of Medical and Health Science, Kwale in Delta State, the state government is yet to hand over the site to federal authorities.

Minister of Education, Prof. Tahir Mamman, stated this, yesterday, in Abuja at a retreat on Quick Wins in the Ministerial Deliverables (2023 to 2027).
He also disclosed that the Federal Government is still awaiting Adamawa State to donate land for the siting of Federal University of Agriculture, Mubi.

In May, the immediate past administration of Muhammadu Buhari approved the establishment of the Federal University of Medical and Health Science, to be located in Kwale. In October, President Bola Tinubu approved the establishment of the Federal University of Agriculture, Mubi.

The minister told journalists: “We are awaiting the Delta and Adamawa state governments to hand over sites for the Federal University of Medical and Health Sciences, Kwale, and Federal University of Agriculture, Mubi, respectively.”

He disclosed that the Federal Government had taken over the sites for the establishment of the following institutions: Federal College of Education Ilawe Ekiti, Ekiti State; Federal College of Education, Ididep, Ibiono, Akwa Ibom State; and Federal College of Education (Technical), Yauri, Kebbi State.

According to him, in the above pr0posed institutions, administrative processes have been concluded for their take-off of academic activities by 2024, adding: “With regard to the Adeyemi Federal University of Education, Ondo, Ondo State and Alvan Ikoku Federal College of Education, Owerri, Imo State, the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) have been directed to enlist them as universities. This will offer Nigerians opportunities for specialised study in the fields of education at the university level.”
