Delta at 34: Okumagba congratulates Deltans, commends Oborevwori

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State and former Commissioner of Finance, Olorogun Bernard Okumagba, has congratulated the government and people of Delta State on the occasion of the state’s 34th anniversary.

In a goodwill message, Okumagba lauded the steady progress Delta has recorded since its creation in 1991, noting that the last two years under the leadership of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori have witnessed remarkable strides in governance and development.

He observed that Deltans have every reason to celebrate, as the state has become one of Nigeria’s leading contributors in education, sports, and the national economy.

According to him, despite the complexities of managing a diverse state, “Deltans have stayed united, and the state has continued to grow from strength to strength.”

Okumagba particularly commended Governor Oborevwori for prioritising human capital development and infrastructural renewal. He described the governor’s leadership style as responsive and inclusive, fostering massive social and infrastructural interventions across the state.

While acknowledging that there is still much to be done, he expressed confidence that Oborevwori’s transformative administration has rekindled hope among Deltans.

He cited the governor’s swift response to the plight of travellers along the Warri–Sapele–Benin Road as an example of people-focused governance. The recent award of a contract for the reconstruction of the unmotorable sections of the federal highway, Okumagba said, is “a very worthy decision that will bring relief to residents and other road users.”

Governor Oborevwori had announced that the reconstruction would cover the dual carriageway from the Spare Parts Market U-turn, Effurun, to Ohore Junction and beyond, before Omenta Bridge. The project will feature an expanded pavement width of 8.8 metres, reinforced concrete shoulders of 2.8 metres, and 12 kilometres of stormwater concrete drains on both sides of the road.

Saluting the governor, Okumagba remarked: “You have reignited hope among the people of Delta State that at 34, we can look back at the progress made and see that there are better days ahead.”

He further praised the state government’s proactive steps in the electricity market, including the creation of a regulatory agency, investment in renewable energy, and empowerment of rural electrification programmes. He described these initiatives as “very commendable and most appropriate to spur development, especially in suburban and rural communities.”

According to him, with the integrated social and industrial infrastructure projects being implemented, Delta State “may well be at the cusp of unlocking more of its economic potential, 34 years after its creation.”

Okumagba, therefore, urged Deltans from all walks of life to rally behind the Oborevwori administration to ensure it succeeds in delivering the dividends of good governance. He wished the government and people of the state more years of peace, progress, and prosperity.
