Delta celebrates Ibori at 59
Delta State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, yesterday, described a former governor of the state, Chief James Onanefe Ibori, as having made legendary contributions to the political development of the state and Nigeria as a whole.
According to his Chief Press Secretary, Charles Aniagwu, Okowa, while acknowledging the achievements of Ibori as he turned 59, said: “Deltans and Nigerians cannot forget in a hurry how you laboured to build the most virile, potent and unassailable political family in Delta State and beyond, even as your legacies still dot the nooks and crannies of the state.”
Okowa, who described the ex-governor as “an astute administrator and enthusiastic leader of impeccable disposition,” said the former governor championed the fight for resource control and fiscal federalism in the country.
Ibori, who was convicted of corruption and money laundering in the United Kingdom in 2012 and was jailed for 13 years, has continued to enjoy loyalty and respect in the state. He returned to Nigeria in February this year after he was released from a UK prison in December last year.
