Delta State Police Command has presented cheques worth N110, 484, 291.91 to the families of 36 police officers killed in service. Commissioner of Police, Wale Abass, presented the cheques in Asaba, the state capital, urging the families to make judicious use of the money.
He said the gesture showed that the police force recognises the contributions of their husbands to the peace and stability of the country.
“These cheques are issued on behalf of the Inspector General of Police, Olukayode Egbetokun, and are part of the IGP Family Welfare and Group Life Assurance schemes being presented to beneficiaries who are next of kin to the deceased officers. I want to appreciate the IGP’s generosity for this kind gesture. I know that the cheques will help the families tremendously and serve as a reminder that even if their loved ones are no longer with them, the sacrifices they made can never be forgotten,” Abass said.
One of the beneficiaries, Isioma Ogabu, who is next of kin to the late Inspector Ogabu Ndidi, and who spoke on behalf of other beneficiaries, thanked the IGP for the gesture.
