The Delta State Government on Tuesday reaffirmed its commitment to democratic values, transparency, and inclusive governance, despite facing criticism and political dissent.
Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Mr. Charles Aniagwu, emphasised this stance during a press briefing in Asaba, while addressing recent protests in the Udu Local Government Area.
Aniagwu responded to allegations arising from youth-led demonstrations in Udu, accusing certain political actors of inciting unrest and spreading misinformation ahead of the forthcoming elections.
He said the press briefing was aimed at countering mounting political rhetoric and reassuring citizens that the Oborevwori administration is committed to transparency, equity, and the continuous upliftment of all communities across the State.
“Some individuals, unable to confront the government directly, are sponsoring false narratives to provoke discontent. But we welcome constructive criticism that aims to enhance governance, not mislead the public”, he stressed.
He reaffirmed that the Governor Sheriff Oborevwori-led administration has been equitable in distributing projects across all 25 local government areas, including Udu—an area that did not overwhelmingly support the ruling party during the 2023 elections.
“Despite that, the government has invested heavily in infrastructure and human capital in Udu,” Aniagwu said, listing an array of ongoing and completed projects to back the administration’s claims of fairness.
The commissioner highlighted the construction and rehabilitation of over 27.8 kilometres of roads and 24 kilometres of drainage systems, linking Udu to neighbouring councils, including Uvwie, Ughelli South, and Warri South-West.
For the education sector, the commissioner detailed ongoing improvements, including the Construction of a JAMB ICT Centre at Ogbe-Udu Secondary School, the Renovation of school blocks at Okolor Waterside, Owhrode, Ogbe-Udu, and Eket, as well as the construction of new classroom blocks and exam facilities at Otor-Udu Secondary School and Aladja Grammar School.
“These are real, verifiable projects of which many are still ongoing. They prove our commitment to equitable development, regardless of political allegiance,” Aniagwu stated.
He urged residents, especially youths, to remain vigilant against misinformation and to recognise the tangible developments in their communities.
“We remain focused on delivering sustainable development across all 25 LGAs, not just those that supported us politically. Our work will always speak louder than misinformation,” he added.
