
Edevbie, who addressed reporters yesterday in Asaba alongside Patrick Ukah, his Information counterpart and Chief James Augoye of Works, said government was able to pay its workers December salary before the Christmas celebration.
He attributed the move to prudent financial management and discipline on the part of the current administration in the state.
Also speaking, Augoye said that the state government had approved the rehabilitation of the 10.8 kilometre road leading to a private university, Edwin Clark University in Kiagbodo, Burutu Local Council of the state
The ivory tower is owned by a top member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Ijaw national leader, Chief Edwin Kiagbodo Clark.
In another development, traditional rulers in communities hosting Oil Mining Lease 30 (OML 30) are soon to get their three per cent royalty as captured in the enabling Global Memorandum of Understanding (GMoU) between the oil-bearing communities and the Nigerian Petroleum Development Company (NPDC), the state Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Peter Mrakpor has assured.
Mrakpor, who unveiled modalities for the final disbursement of the money at a meeting with 29 traditional rulers drawn from Ijaw, Urhobo, Isoko, Okpe and Itsekiri kingdoms in Warri, said the fund was set aside for traditional rulers under the executed agreement.
After a rigourous session, the royal fathers agreed that the oil companies should disburse the three per entitlement through their various clusters in preference to other dissenting sharing formulas.
Represented by the Director, Department of Peoples’ Rights, Omamuzo Erebe, Mrakpor said the negotiation of the GMOU, which was midwifed by the state government through the State Ministry of Justice amongst others, mooted the project funds for the maintenance of the monarchs.
