The Delta State Government may terminate the contract for the Mosogar electricity supply project in Ethiope West Council over the contractor’s non-performance.

Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, who gave the hint yesterday at the palace ground during the final passage rites of the Ovie of Mosogar, Samson Okirhiobo Imoyin-Omene, Udurhie I, expressed dissatisfaction with the level of progress of the project, saying he was disturbed to hear that the project continues to suffer unnecessary delay on account of the ineptitude of the contractor.

Okowa said the state government would take steps to terminate and re-award the project to a more competent contractor, assuring the community of government’s support towards the rehabilitation of its internal roads.

Okowa paid glowing tribute to the late monarch, who he described as a humble leader that cared for the growth and development of his kingdom.

“His humility was such that it attracted everyone who came close to him and that’s what is expected of us, especially when we find ourselves in positions of power,” he said.

In his welcome address, the traditional prime minister and Otota of Mosogar Kingdom, Chief Ighoyota Amori, said the funeral symbolises the beginning of a new era in the kingdom and preparation for the enthronement of a new king.

He urged the state government to terminate and re-award the contract for the 2.5MVA Transformer to energise the Mosogar electricity network.

The funeral was attended by former governors of the state, Chief James Ibori and Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan, members of the National and State Assemblies, among other dignitaries.
