Delta mulls sensitisation of citizens on environment
The Delta Government is to embark on sensitisation of citizens on the environment, including policies and programmes being floated by Governor Ifeanyi Okowa to make the state a better place to live in.
With the new resolution, residents would be in a position to access the achievements of the Ministry of Environment and the Asaba Capital Development Territory and the Waste Management Board – the bodies saddled with the task to facelift the capital and some other townships across the state.
The Commissioner for Environment, Chris Onogba, in a statement by the Public Relations Officer in the ministry, said the facelifting of Asaba could not be over-emphasized, as the state was determine to make it and other major towns reflect the realities of the Stronger Delta initiative.
According to him, “the state is determined to continue with what it started by encouraging the people to be conscious to the fact that ownership of the environment gives one an edge to good health.”
He added: “At the end of the day, residents would have been in a position to access the achievements of the Ministry of Environment in collaboration with Asaba Capital Development Territory and the Waste Management Board on the ongoing facelift of the Asaba Capital Territory and other towns across the state.”
Onogba also noted that the cleaning business was all encompassing, involving everybody to the right mind of getting the entire state very clean like every other city in Nigeria as well as engaging the private sectors in beautifying the environment.
He stated that there was need, “to drive the ownership of the environment to the people to help police it, keep it clean, as we have achieved a remarkable feet that include the Effurun/Warri axis, and we have no doubt that by the time we are done with the beautification, residents will begin to feel the impact of our efforts.”
The commissioner, who said he is in sync with other sister environmental agencies in the state saddled with the responsibility of sanitising the environment, added that they were working to achieve their common goals of keeping the environment clean.
