Delta Poly accountant arrested with Beretta pistol
The Chief Accountant of Delta State Polytechnic Oghara, Oviri Onorigho, has been arrested by the police at his residence in Oghara town, Ethiope West Local Council of the state.
The 52-year-old, suspected to be a member of Aye confraternity, was arrested at about 11:30 p.m., on May 25, 2024
The Guardian learnt that the police special team deployed to Ughelli, led by ASP Julius Robinson, stormed his residence with a search warrant and recovered one Beretta pistol loaded with four rounds of live ammunition.
Confirming the development, spokesperson for the command, Bright Edafe, said preliminary investigation revealed that Oviri Onorigho is a suspected member of Aye confraternity.
Edafe stated that the suspect had confessed that he bought the gun from one Morrison (at large) for N250,000, for protection.
“The suspect is in custody while investigation on the matter is ongoing,” he added.
Edafe also confirmed the arrest of two suspected armed robbers residing in Ekpan community.
The suspects: Gift Newworld and Izobo Okwe, both male, were arrested at about 6:10 a.m., on May 17.
He said: “A resident of Ekpan community (name withheld) came to the charge room and reported that he sighted a certain young man dressed in a black cloth carrying a black bag inside their compound. He raised an alarm, which made the suspect escape. They later noticed that their pumping machine had been stolen by the suspect.
“The police operatives, alongside members of the community, arrested one Gift Newworld, ‘m’, of Ekpan community, and after a painstaking interrogation and investigation, the suspect led the police to his hideout in Ekpan where the pumping machine, one locally made cut-to-size double barreled gun, and three live cartridges were recovered.
“Investigation led to the arrest of his gang member, Izobo Okwe, ‘m’, of Ekpan who later confessed to being the owner of the gun.
