Delta to reward 62-year-old, nine others with N50m contract
The Delta State government has disclosed that it will give a contract worth N50 million to 62-year-old Elizabeth Okapkare and nine youths who were among top 10 persons shortlisted in the Delta Talent Search.
Speaking to journalists in Asaba yesterday, Ogus Baba, a Senior Special Assistant to Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, said the governor was searching for talented people to promote and move the state forward through the talent hunt initiative, noting that it was a new crusade besides the crude oil in the state.
He said the search in drama, comedy and music was initiated in 2015 to enhance the human capital development of the state with a view to engaging the youths, who were shortlisted among over 2,000 applicants.
“These 20 bright stars are the future of African talent hunt. Each of them will be due for a N5 million contract for exemplary display of talent. Legends in music, drama and comedy are expected to watch their performances, as they make the state proud,” he said.
Baba pointed out that 10 of the 20 shortlisted talented youths comprising 11 musicians, five dramatists and four comedians, would emerge Made in Delta Ambassadors on July 20, 2021, while those who could not make it at the grand finale would be engaged in future Delta projects to avoid wasting their talents.
“They were camped for over one month for training to showcase their talents and what they can do for the state,” he added.
