Delta: Unknown gunmen kill INEC staff as LP chieftain advises against post election violence

The Resident Electoral Commissioner in Delta state, Mr. Monday Udoh Tom, yesterday, confirmed the killing of an official of the Commission by unknown gunmen.

He also said some corps members sustained injuries.
 
Tom disclosed this to newsmen shortly after he announced the election result of Ukwuani Local Council.
 
He said:  “There was an incident of attack in Ukwuani, where one of us died on their way coming after the election.
   


“The gunmen opened fire on the bus conveying them, but unfortunately one was killed while some corps members sustained injuries.”
 
According to him, those injured are currently receiving treatment in the locality but “we are planning on how to move them to hospital in Asaba.”

MEANWHILE, a Labour party leader in Delta State, Comrade Benjamin Ashiedu, has advised Nigerians to shun post election violence and embrace the spirit of patriotism to build a united nation.
 
Asiedu gave the advice in Okpanam, near Asaba, Oshimili North Local Council of the state, following complaints by some electorate over trickling of results from last Saturday’s Presidential and National Assembly elections so far released by INEC.
 
He advised desperate politicians and INEC officials not to circumvent the will of God, adding that the results of the election must reflect the expectations of the masses.

Comrade Ashiedu commended Nigerians and voters in Okpanam, in particular for their active participation in the just concluded Presidential and National Assembly elections.
