Residents of Diobu in Port Harcourt on Tuesday commended Gov. Nyesom Wike of Rivers for the ongoing rehabilitation of roads in the area.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that Wike, during his inauguration, pledged to carry out operation zero potholes in Port Harcourt to ease vehicular movements.

The state of roads in Diobu had made both vehicular and human movements difficult before commencement of rehabilitation.

Mrs Petu Jack, a food vendor in the area, welcomed the rehabilitation of the roads.

Jack said residents had been put through hardship due to the deplorable state of the roads which she added, were further worsened by the onset of the rain.

Another resident, Mr Igbani Jodes, noted that some of the roads had been abandoned by residents who preferred to take longer routes to get to their destinations.

He said he spent huge amount of money on the repair of his car whenever he took the risk of passing through one of the bad roads.

Another resident, Mrs Mary Canon, told NAN that roads in the area had become death traps due to their bad state.

“You see, when you want to take your children to school, you think of where and how to pass through the bad roads because the roads are waterlogged and muddy’’, she added.

Mr Beniton Aguda, a civil servant and resident of Diobu, commended the state government for being sensitive to the plight of residents of the area.

He noted that the government, by the initiative, had made life meaningful and stress-free for residents of the area.
