Yar’Adua applauds Tinubu for immortalising late president

Senator Abdulaziz Musa Yar’Adua has praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for approving the renaming of the Institute of Petroleum Studies, Kaduna, after the late General Shehu Musa Yar’Adua, describing the decision as a powerful tribute to one of Nigeria’s most influential statesmen and democracy advocates.

The senator said the move ensures that General Yar’Adua’s contributions to national development, military service, and democratic advancement will remain permanently etched in the nation’s history.

President Tinubu recently approved the renaming of the institution as the General Shehu Musa Yar’Adua University of Geological Sciences and Engineering Technology, a development Senator Yar’Adua said reflects the country’s appreciation for the values his late brother embodied.

In a statement issued on Friday, the lawmaker described the honour as more than a ceremonial gesture, saying it represents national recognition of a leader whose life was defined by sacrifice, courage, patriotism, and an unwavering commitment to Nigeria.

According to him, General Shehu Yar’Adua stood for a Nigeria where merit, service, and national unity outweighed ethnic, religious, or political considerations.

“By naming this university after him, future generations will be constantly reminded that leadership is about sacrifice, vision, and commitment to nation-building,” he said.

The senator noted that the institution’s new identity carries a responsibility to produce graduates who will drive innovation in the energy sector while embracing the values of integrity, excellence, and public service.

He expressed gratitude to President Tinubu and the Federal Government for what he described as a fitting and enduring recognition of a man whose influence extended beyond the military into Nigeria’s democratic evolution.

Speaking on behalf of the Yar’Adua family and the people of Katsina Central, the senator said the honour would inspire younger Nigerians to appreciate the importance of selfless service and national commitment.

He also expressed hope that the university would emerge as a centre of excellence for geological sciences, engineering, and technological advancement, helping to shape the future of Nigeria’s energy industry while preserving the ideals General Shehu Yar’Adua represented.

Senator Yar’Adua concluded by praying for peace, progress, and unity in Nigeria, describing the renaming as a landmark recognition of a legacy that continues to resonate across generations.
