Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, has assured the people of Bayelsa State that, come the end of January 2026, they will enjoy steady light. He stated that Bayelsa State had been in darkness for about 29 years. He urged the people to rejoice because God gave them a governor who wants to give them Independent Power Plants (IPP).
Diri, who disclosed this yesterday at the Mgbidi 2026 crusade of The Lord’s Chosen Charismatic Revival Ministries, themed “What God has determined shall be done”, held at the Chosen International Secondary School Complex, Mgbidi, Imo State, said the people would not depend on NEPA anymore.
Diri, who graced the crusade ground with his entourage, said going forward Bayelsans would have Independent Power Plants (IPP).
According to the governor, the people need light for everything they want to do. He added that the people are happy that they have good roads, including dual carriageways.
“Bayelsa is a state blessed with oil and gas. We have so much gas, but yet we are in darkness. The government procured eight gas turbines; six of them are already installed, with the remaining two to be installed.”
Diri stressed further that his administration is building a new city called New Yenagoa with dual carriage roads, as well as a new stadium that would contain 30,000 people.
The governor said that when you do the things that people want, God is with you, and that no matter the opposition, “the power that you have is much greater than the power that is in them.”
The governor also used the occasion to reflect on the passing away of his deputy governor, His Excellency, Senator Dr Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo. He noted that all mortals would die one day, but it must be approved by God. He regretted that the state ended 2025 on a very sad note.
Diri said, “In 2025, I lost one of my cabinet members, the Honourable Commissioner for Women Affairs. As if that was not enough, towards the end of the year, on 11 December 2025 precisely, tragedy struck, and I lost my second-in-command, the Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State, His Excellency, Senator Dr Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo. So, we ended the year on a very bad note in my state.
“We are mourning and grieving, and in that regard, I declared three days of mourning and ordered that the flag be flown at half-mast. I keep receiving visitors from all across Nigeria to condole with us on the passing of my deputy governor. May his soul rest in peace. And that almost stopped me from attending this year’s crusade at Mgbidi. But I told myself that affliction shall not rise a second time. And the only way to ensure that is to come to this powerful fellowship, join my faith with you, and affliction will not rise a second time,” Diri added.
Diri, who expressed his gratitude to God for the opportunity given to him to be at the crusade, encouraged the participants to continue to serve God, adding that they will never remain the same again.
Appreciating the General Overseer of the Church Worldwide, Pastor Lazarus Muoka, the governor said he would continue to appreciate the General Overseer for who he is and what he is doing. He demonstrated God’s love upon him, love for the man of God, and the church by prostrating on the pulpit, acknowledging God’s grace over his life and the state.
“I want to continue to appreciate our General Overseer, Pastor Lazarus Muoka, for who he is and what he is. When I lost my deputy governor, he looked for me everywhere to talk to me. In fact, my pastor could not rest until he was able to get me to talk to him and to assure me that God was still with me.
“Thank you so much, because those words that you offered and prayers really strengthened me and strengthened us. And I believe most of the testimonies here are testimonies that really happened, and if you believe them, they will also happen to you. I thank you all and continue to hold on to God,” Diri said.
He called on politicians to know that they are elected to serve the people, and when they do well, the same people will stand by them.
The General Overseer, while appreciating the governor and his entourage, asked the congregation to pray for his government so that they will finish well.
