The District Governor of Rotary International District 9112, Rotarian Lanre Adedoyin, has paid an official visit to the Rotary Club of Victoria Island East (RCVIE) at Lavender Hall, Eko Hotels & Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos.
Rotary International requires District Governors to visit clubs in their district at least once yearly, ensuring direct engagement with members and an assessment of club activities.
Speaking after the meeting, Adedoyin commended the club for its efforts but urged members to expand their impact under the Rotary Foundation’s umbrella.
“I believe that they should work more, bring in new members, contribute to the Rotary Foundation, and ensure that their service projects are impactful and community driven,” he said.
Adedoyin reflected on his Rotary journey, which began following a group study exchange experience in Wisconsin, United States, in 2002.
“Since I joined Rotary, I have never looked back, and to the glory of God, today I am District Governor of my district,” he said.
He praised the dedication of the club’s members and reiterated his commitment to projects focused on child and maternal health as well as basic education.
He highlighted the district’s youth exchange programme, which sponsors young people to experience foreign cultures and educational systems.
Touching on Rotary International’s global theme for the year, ‘Unite for Good’, Adedoyin added: “You cannot have a society where there is no unity. The purpose of Unite for Good is to enable us to speak with one voice in whatever we do.”
Also speaking, the President of RCVIE, Rotn. Mokesioluwa Seun-Adedamola, described the governor’s visit as an opportunity to review the club’s health, achievements, and future goals.
“We received the District Governor to present our goals, accomplishments and projections for the future. That is what we have done today,” he said.
A major highlight of the event was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding with Anchor HMO to provide a year’s free medical service plan for displaced persons at Elegushi Beach.
“This initiative is to ensure they have one less thing to worry about and to make life easier for them, which is one of Rotary’s key goals,” the president explained.
She further disclosed plans to furnish 10 classrooms as smart classrooms to enhance the learning experience of pupils.
Other memorable moments included the donation of an 85 inch smart television by Rotarian Mokesioluwa Seun Adedamola on behalf of the club to Rotary International District 9112.
