Diya, Abugu re-echo calls for restructuring at Fayemi’s memorial anniversary

Former Chief of General Staff, Oladipupo Diya, and Prof. Joseph Abugu, of Faculty of Law, University of Lagos have re-echoed the call for a true fiscal federalism to allow devolution of more political and economic powers to states.

The duo, said this at the 20th remembrance anniversary and a book launch titled, “Man and His Conflicting Ideologies,” in honour of the late frontline politician, Victor Olujimi Fayemi, held at Rev. Agnus Memorial Hall, Igbobi College, Lagos.

Diya, who was the chairman of the occasion, said for Nigeria to move forward, all hands must be on deck to re-engineer it. He also commended the children of the late Fayemi for choosing a topic bordering on the restructuring of the country, at a time when the call for it across the country is gaining momentum. Abugu, who delivered the lecture, condemned the present political structure in the country, describing it as skewed and unfair.

Speaking on the reason behind the launch of the book, which covers the political, religious, professional and community development exploits of the late Balogun of Odogbolu, Ijebu, his son, Olusoga David Fayemi disclosed that it was in fulfilment of one of his father’s major wishes to publish a book about his experiences in life and in politics.

Among the dignitaries who attended the occasion were, Oba Adedeji Onagoruwa, the Alaye of Odogbolu Alhaji Tanko Yakasai, an elder statesman and Hon. Olawale Shittu, Executive Chairman, Odogbolu Local Government.
